Synopsis> Sluggy Freelance is arguably the one of the oldest webcomics still operating. Stretching back to August 25, 1997, this daily webcomic is a loose, but coherent combination of spoofs, original story lines and deeply human characters. These characters are Torg, a “normal” guy; Riff, his inventor/scientist friend; Zöe, Torg’s sometime love interest who occasionally turns into a camel; and Gwen, a witch who is slightly possessed by the Book of Eville. Adding to this eclectic cast is Bunn-Bunn, the Sociopathic switchblade wielding mini-lop, Aylee the man eating alien, and Kiki, the hyper ferret. Over the years, the plot has taken these characters to alternate dimensions, back in time, and pitted them against everything from the demons of the Dimension of Pain to the goons of a mega-corporation to Santa, all the while with tongue-in-cheek humor.
Art> The look of the strip has significantly improved from its first days. The consistency of the art has locked into a solid style. While slightly cartoonish, is certainly apropos for the subject matter.
Plot> Torg, recently returned from an extended stay in the Dimension of Lame, finds that Riff attempted to have him cloned, which leads to the house in which the cast live being taken by the would-be cloners in lieu of payment for a cloned tooth brush. These cloners develop a bug which attacks the brain, making people smarter at the expense of their social niceties. Zöe is kidnapped by the cloners and taken to be a demonstration of the bug. Prior to the demonstration, the bugs got loose, and infected the audience, leaving them without social consciences, effectively zombies. Currently, Zöe is trapped in the building with a freelance scientist and his daughter.
Fiddly bits> Organization In chapters!! Gotta love the people who value the people who go back through their archives! Seriously, this is a great, funny, and punny comic.
